A Dream Answered

After twenty hours of labor, Faith held the two precious gifts God had given her and her husband, Isaac, her heart overflowing with pure love.  Happy tears rolled down her cheeks, and she kissed her son and then her yawning daughter.

Faith looked up at Isaac, who stared in awe of their babies. Tentatively, he caressed their daughter's tiny hand with his index finger and thumb.  He stroked their son's curly brown hair.  When Isaac raised his head, he gave Faith a huge smile, showing his deep-set dimples, which always made her heart flip-flop.

"They're so perfect," he said, tenderly kissing her lips. "Thank you."

She shook her head. "Thank God, who answered our fervent prayers." Thinking of God's unwavering love and His grace, a lump formed in her throat, and she sent up a silent prayer of thanks.

"I told you He would answer." He wiped a strand of sweaty hair from her eye.
Faith sighed and glanced down at the twins, their little angels, again, and she replied, "Yes, you did." Faith saw her son was watching her intently with his blue eyes, identical to Isaac, both in shape and color.  I have a feeling you'll be my serious child.  Her eyes traveled to her still sleeping daughter, who was making cooing sounds.   Maybe you'll be my layback one.

Sighing happily, Faith turned her attention to her husband. "I never would've thought I would have a family of my own.  That all began to change when  I heard you at church, singing Amazing Grace off-key, directly behind my parents and me."

Isaac put a hand over his heart and gasped dramatically. "You wound me. Don't you know God loves a joyful noise?"

"I know, she said, laughing. "Anyway, when I craned my neck over my shoulder to look at you, I  felt a strange sense of recognition.   Like my soul knew you."

He nodded. "I felt the same way.  I knew I had to meet and get to know you." He grunted. "Your parents were suspicious of me, and so were you."

"I’ve never had a handsome man paying me so much attention before, and Mom and Dad were overprotective.”  She adjusted herself in the bed.  “I couldn’t believe you could love me as I loved you.  My disability was a turn-off to guys.”

Isaac caressed her cheek and gazed lovingly into her eyes.   “They were fools.  You’re beautiful, smart, and talented.  You having Cerebral you only makes you even more special and inspiring.”

She felt herself blush at her husband’s compliments.  “Thanks.”  She moved her face a little and kissed his palm.  “I glad you convinced them that you truly loved me and that your intentions were honorable.  Or we wouldn’t be happily married for two years nor be blessed with our children.”

He smiled.  “Speaking of them, do you still like the names we’ve decided on?”
“Yes.”  Faith looked down at their children and said, “Welcome to the world, Abigail Grace and Jesse Gabriel.”

Isaac scooted up on the bed, and he wrapped an arm around her.  After kissing her forehead, he said, “We’re complete now.  I love all three of you so much.”

Fresh tears pooled in her eyes at his words.   “I love you and the twins beyond any words can say.”  Then Faith snuggled into her husband’s warmth, breathing in his musky cologne and watching her babies.  A sense of blissfulness enveloped her.

I got everything that I dreamed and prayed for all my life-a family of my own. Faith glanced up at the crucifix, which hung on the wall, and made a vow to God.  I will love Isaac, Abigail, and Jesse with every fiber of my being, just like You love us.  I’ll never take what You’ve given me for granted.
